Gas, water, and light

Normally, this would not be extraordinary, but since a week we reached a milestone in our new house. We have water, gas, and light, which means that we now have a heated house and can also take a shower after a long working day.

Last weekend we went to Zieleniec. A small village some 100km south of Wrocław. This was a late birthday gift for Jola. Our idea was to spend as much time as possible walking with Jerry in the mountains, but (un)fortunately the place was covered in snow.
So we decided to rent some equipment and have been skiing there on Sunday... even before the season started.

Slowly we're getting into winter here in Poland. During the night it freezes, and during the day sometimes it snows. In our new house where we unfortunately do not live yet, it's getting colder and colder so we heat it with an electrical heater and when possible we put on the fireplace.

Egypt

In October we have been two weeks on a deserved holiday in Egypt. We have stayed in a nice luxorious hotel with a beautiful swimming pool and a beautiful coral reef at the beach.
Next to sun tanning and relaxing we have been snorkeling a lot. We also have done a camel ride and a Jeep safari. And in the last weekend we have visited Cairo with its beautiful pyramids and Sphynx.
In three words: A GREAT HOLIDAY!

Licheń

Last weekend Jola and I have visited the small town of Licheń. It's not as known as pilgrimmage city Częstochowa, but around Licheń Holy Maria appeared in the 19th century a couple of times in front of a wounded soldier and a shepherd. One of the assignments she gave to them was to built a place where people could worship Her.
Since a couple of years Licheń houses the biggest basilik of Poland, and I can tell you it is immensely impressive. Huge pillars, an even huger organ, and the picture of the sorrowful Maria above the altar.

Het afgelopen weekend hebben Jola en ik het stadje Licheń bezocht. Niet zo bekend als bedevaartsoord Częstochowa, maar in de omgeving van Licheń is Maria een aantal keren verschenen tegenover een gewonde soldaat en een herder in de 19e eeuw. Een van de opdrachten die deze mensen kregen was het bouwen van een plek waar mensen Maria konden aanbidden.
Sinds een aantal jaren heeft Licheń de grootste basiliek van Polen en het is zeer indrukwekkend. Immense pilaren, een nog groter orgel en het schilderij met daarop de verontruste Maria.

Ik kan het gerucht niet meer terugvinden dat Feyenoord ook bezig is een Pools international vast te leggen, maar Heerenveen heeft hem. Is dit de invloed van Don Leo?

Jerry - 2 years old

Look at him... on 15 August 2007 Jerry, our labrador retriever, became 2 years old. Or should I say 14 in dogs' years?
At least he is in the middle of his teens and that means that he can be a doll, but also a true @sshole...
For sure, we love him and do not regret the decission to buy him 1,5 year ago.

Zie hem hier zitten... op 15 augustus 2007 werd Jerry, onze labrador retriever 2 jaar oud. Of moet ik zeggen 14 jaar oud in hondenjaren?
Hij is in ieder geval duidelijk in zijn pubertijd en dat houdt in dat hij zeer lief kan zijn, maar ook een enorme l@llo.
Nee hoor, we houden enorm veel van hem en hebben geen spijt van onze aankoop 1,5 jaar geleden.

I always followed the Tour de France. In The Netherlands I listened to Radio Tour de France for years, but when I moved to Poland I had to give that one up. However, the website above gives me everything I want... live Radio Tour de France... live television coverage... Super!

Mooi spul dat internet.
In Nederland volgde ik altijd de Tour de France. In de middag ging steevast Radio Tour de France aan, maar toen ik naar Polen verhuisde toen was dat over. Maar nu is daar de website van hierboven... live Radio Tour de France... live televisie... live nieuwsflitsen... Fantastisch!

On the Rynek here in Wrocław a lot of times a guy is singing classic songs. It sounds actually nice, but his performance seems somehow out of place on the always busy Rynek. But guess what... by coincidence I found his weblog and he is telling about his performances.

Op de Rynek hier in Wrocław kun je vaak een vent klassiek horen zingen. Het klinkt best goed, maar ergens past het niet op de altijd drukke Rynek. Bij toeval kwam ik vandaag zijn weblog tegen waarop hij vertelt over zijn 'optredens'.

Weekend

Last weekend, Jola and I are busy, very busy. Next week our current house has to be empty. And therefore, our new house has to be ready to move some stuff in.

Jola has been packing stuff in boxes, and I have been painting again. And building some regips. And doing gładż.

Het afgelopen weekend hebben Jola en ik het druk gehad. Eind juli moet ons huidige huis leeg zijn. En daarom moet ons nieuwe huis klaar zijn om spullen in te plaatsen.

Jola is vooral bezig geweest met het inpakken van dozen en ik heb me beziggehouden met schilderen en het plaatsen van gipsplaten met spachtelputz.

Summer

It's summer and it's been a long time ago I wrote something here. And that will stay so for a while. Main reason is that we are very busy with preparing for moving from our old house to our new house. So we're packing boxes again. And in the new house we're finishing... well, finishing... we're right now painting the rooms, and others are finishing the bathrooms and living room... some while to go still :-(

Something new

Here something new is growing, we bought a house 4 km from Wrocław.

Hier groeit iets nieuws... we hebben een huis gekocht 4 km van Wrocław.

Tutaj coś nowego zaczyna. Naszy nowy dom jest 4 km od Wrocławiu.

Slowacja

In the beginning of March we had a short holiday in Slowacja. We went there to enjoy some thermal baths and ended up also with some skiing. We had a nice small house close to Liptovsky Mikolas where Jola, Jerry, and I had a wonderful time. During the day skiing and in the evening sitting in 38 C warm, brown water with snowflakes falling on our heads.

Begin maart zijn we kort op vakantie geweest in Slowakije. We gingen daarheen om te genieten van thermale baden en hebben zelfs nog geskied. We hadden een mooi klein huisje vlakbij Liptovsky Mikolas waar Jola, Jerry en ik een heerlijke tijd hebben gehad. Tijdens de dag skiën en 's avonds in een 38 C warm, bruin bad terwijl de sneeuwvlokken op onze hoofden neerdaalden.

Początek marzec miałyśmy krótki urlop w Slowacji. Nasza intencja był pływać w basenie termalnym. Natomiast byłyśmy na nartach. Miałyśmy fajny, miały dom blisko Liptovski Mikolas i Jola, Jerry i ja bardzo lubiłyśmy nasz urlop. Rano jechałyśmy na narty i wieczorem na basen. Woda był 38 C i brązowy i śnieg padał na głowę.
